Clipper Wonsild chooses Navmaster ECS from PC Maritime

Tanker operator Clipper Wonsild has placed orders for seven Navmaster Electronic Chart Systems (ECS) for its UK-based fleet.

The Navmaster ECS systems are being delivered with voyage data recording and replay for installation onboard the seven ships, with an additional Navmaster Office system for Clipper Wonsild's office in Southampton. This will enable management to recover data automatically recorded onto DVD from the vessels and to review it ashore in order to provide information in the event of an incident.

Marine operations manager Captain Roy Webb said:

"We suffered a navigational incident recently and one of the corrective actions we agreed to implement was to fit electronic chart systems on our vessels to help prevent incidents and to assist our masters and officers in their decision-making processes, particularly in confined waters. We looked at all the various systems on the market and we liked Navmaster's VDR option where data from the ships' systems can be taken and transferred back to the office. Another advantage of fitting ECS to our existing fleet is that our crews can get used to electronic navigation so that when they join newbuild vessels they will have a stronger grasp of ECDIS."

As part of the order PC Maritime are project-managing the installation of the Navmaster systems and providing training to ships' staff on each vessel. An upgrade path to Type Approved Navmaster ECDIS is also available.
